Swico Recycling, the Swiss Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO), focuses on collecting and recycling electronic waste, including computers, TVs, and mobile phones. They partner with dss+ to conduct annual audits and ensure compliance among electronics recycling operators.
Challenge
Electronic waste management entails significant health and environmental risks, due to the presence of hazardous materials such as heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants. However, it also offers a valuable opportunity for urban mining, allowing the recovery of critical raw materials from discarded products. Swico Recycling face the complex task of ensuring compliance with ever-changing environmental regulations, and industry standards across multiple facilities. Accurate documentation and robust reporting systems is essential to support their operational efficiency.
Solution
Swico’s recycling partners engage with dss+ to execute their annual audits. Batch tests are conducted to provide empirical evidence of the achievement of recycling targets. The dss+ team also contributes to the further development of normative requirements and processes to continuously improve the quality and efficiency of electronics recycling. This project is an ongoing, annual initiative.
